After Fire Stories: Showing the Fire’s Impact and the Journey Toward Healing
What is the project for?
This is a research/creative project inspired by Photovoice, a participatory action research method where community members tell their stories through their own photos and words. We aim show the unseen impact of the Fire on individuals and communities. Words cannot capture the true impact and photos taken from the perspective of fire survivors are essential to tell the community story. The collection of photos will be displayed for public viewing in an online gallery and social media.
How do I participate?
After the Fire, many of us turned to photos—some showing devastation and loss, others revealing moments of strength, hope, or connection. Please submit just one or up to three photos that reflect your personal experience. All images must be taken by you and may represent any part of your journey: what was lost, what was found, or what helps you carry on.
These photos will be displayed in an online gallery. You may remain anonymous, use your real name, or use a pseudonym as the author of the visual and written content.
How does this help?
Personal photos offer powerful insights into how people experience, remember, and recover from disaster. By sharing your images and reflections:
-
You help document lived experiences of loss, resilience, and rebuilding
-
Your story becomes part of a larger community narrative that highlights diverse impacts
-
Visual storytelling allows for emotional expression and meaning-making that written surveys often can’t capture
-
Your contribution supports a collective archive that can inform policy, recovery efforts, and public understanding
Be part of a shared space for healing, reflection, and advocacy!
